“DAVID BENNET COHEN” OF COUNTRY JOE & THE FISH AND THE BLUES PROJECT TO HEADLINE RETROFEST 23, PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL TO BENEFIT CANCERCARE'S LUNG CANCER SUPPORT PROGRAM

Retrofest specializes in non-profit charity productions featuring the best music from the Festivals of the late 60s through early 70s.  On Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 9:00pm – 2:15am, Retro69, as well as several other acts, will perform the music of the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, just in time for the legendary event’s 43rd Anniversary.  Whenever possible, the concert will follow the order and instrumentation from the original experience, including covers of the The Association, Lou Rawls, Johnny Rivers, The Animals, Simon and Garfunkel, Canned Heat, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Country Joe and the Fish, Al Kooper, The Butterfield Blues Band, The Electric Flag, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Steve Miller Band, Moby Grape, The Byrds, Laura Nyro, Jefferson Airplane,Booker T. & the MGs, Otis Redding, The Blues Project, Buffalo Springfield, The Who , The Grateful Dead, The Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas & the Papas

The fundraiser will take place at the Sunset Grill, located at 4068 Sunrise Highway. Seaford , NY 11783  516-785-4952.

All net proceeds will benefit CancerCare, the largest national nonprofit organization providing free support services including counseling, to help people with cancer and their loved ones.  CancerCare is proud to lend their support to this event.  “Every day we are reminded of how lung cancer has such a negative impact on the lives of so many families here on Long Island,” said Win Boerckel, CancerCare’s Lung Cancer Program Coordinator. “CancerCare provides the supportive resources so desperately needed when the crisis of lung cancer arises, and we are grateful to Terri Cron and Allan Spielman for naming CancerCare the beneficiary of this fundraiser.”

The event will be dedicated to the memory of Rosemary Doty, whose eight month struggle with aggressive lung cancer took her life in December 2006. Her daughter, Terri Cron is excited to have an event that not only memorializes her mother but will also help spread awareness of lung cancer, which takes more lives in the United States than breast and prostate cancer combined.

"There is a stigma that if you have lung cancer you brought it upon yourself because you smoked," says Cron. "But you don't have to be a smoker to get lung cancer; and my goal is not only to make people aware of how common this cancer is but to let sufferers and their families know there is support and resources available that can help them cope."

"We are very pleased that CancerCare has decided to come aboard and lend their name and support to this event," says Lynn Jordan of Pitbull-Bear Management, who ran a similar Retrofest for CancerCare event in 2009.  "Allan Spielman has been doing Retrofests for several charities and his vision and talent, along with CancerCare's dedication, and Terri's devotion makes for a formidable team.  We believe that this event will show that not only does Long Island have an incredible depth of talent but that a live, local music event can be a vehicle for many great things.

In addition to the headliners, special guests Cindy Lopez, Dianne Fogarty "Sweaty Betty",  Lou Caruso. Jerry Zachman, and Andy Menesedy will be backed by Retro69. Guest bands include the Rockinghams,  King Penguin, and Bigdaddy & the Bull  Dogs. There is a minimum required donation of $10 ($5 after 12:30am)..
